Privacy Policy

Who we are

The Site and The Good Entrepreneur newsletter are operated by Virpi Tervonen, based in Finland (“we”, “us”, “our”). For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Virpi Tervonen is the data controller for personal data collected through the Site.

What we collect and why

Email address and name. When you subscribe to the newsletter, you give us your email address and, if you choose, your first name. We use these to send you the weekly letter and occasional messages about the Site or related work of ours we believe may interest you. The legal basis is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any email.

Usage data. We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how the Site is used: which pages are visited, from what kind of device, and roughly where in the world. It works without cookies and does not identify you personally; visitors are counted using an anonymised hash that resets daily, so you cannot be tracked across days or across websites. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the Site. Vercel’s privacy policy is available at https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Vercel) records standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. The Site is served from Vercel’s Frankfurt region, within the European Union.

Cookies

The Site does not use cookies. Our analytics work without them, and reading the Site or subscribing to the newsletter requires none.

Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We share it only with the service providers who make the Site and newsletter work:

These providers process data on our behalf. The Site itself is hosted within the European Union, but both companies are based in the United States, so some personal data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, it is protected by recognised safeguards: Kit is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, and its data processing agreement includes the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. Vercel likewise relies on the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.

Beyond this, we would disclose personal data only if required by law.

How long we keep your data

We keep your email address and name for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your details are removed from active mailing within Kit, and we delete remaining records within a reasonable period. Aggregated analytics data does not identify you and may be retained for longer.

If you believe our processing of your personal data infringes data protection law, you may complain to the supervisory authority in your country of residence. In Finland, this is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).

Security

We take reasonable measures, and choose service providers who do the same, to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, misuse or disclosure. No transmission of data over the internet can be guaranteed fully secure, so any information you share with the Site is shared at your own discretion.

Children

The Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Terms of Use

Content and its purpose

Everything published on the Site and in the newsletter is offered for general information and education. It reflects our experience and views on entrepreneurship and is not legal, financial, tax, medical or other professional advice. Your business and circumstances are your own; use your judgement, and consult a qualified professional where decisions carry real consequences.

We make no promises about the results you will get from applying anything we publish. Outcomes depend on your situation, your decisions and your work.

Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the content of the Site and the newsletter (text, structure, graphics and design) belongs to Virpi Tervonen. You are welcome to share links to the Site and to quote short excerpts with attribution and a link back. Republishing full letters or substantial portions of the Site without written permission is not allowed.

The Site and newsletter may link to websites, tools and resources operated by others. We link to things we find useful, but we do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything a third party does.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Site or newsletter, or from reliance on anything published in them. The Site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind.

Changes

We may update this page from time to time as the Site develops or the law requires. The effective date above shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated version.

Governing law

These terms and this policy are governed by the laws of Finland. Any disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Finnish courts, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
